How To Replace A Flat Tire

Whether you’re heading out on the open road or making your daily commute to work, a flat tire is a pain to deal with. While many would call and wait for roadside assistance, changing the flat yourself could save valuable time. Switching out the flat for your spare is simpler than it seems. We here at Hometown Motors can help you replace a flat tire whether you’re on the road or in your garage!

  • Once you’ve pulled off to the side of the road, get out your wrench, jack, and spare tire. Remove the hubcap if you have one.
  • Next, start loosening each lug nut. Don’t remove them altogether and keep the car on the ground for leverage.
  • Lug nuts loosened, raise the car six inches off the ground using the jack. Consult your owner’s manual for proper placement.
  • Remove the lug nuts and store them in a place where you can find them later.
  • Remove the flat tire by pulling straight out from the car.
  • Line up the lug nut posts with the holes in spare and push the tire in as far as it will go.
  • Replace the bolts.
  • Lower the car.
  • Finish tightening the lug nuts.
  • Replace the hubcap, pack your tools, and drive off!
