There is nothing quite like the roar of a V8 engine. However, if you are belting out engine cracks early in the morning or late at night, you likely won’t be the favorite neighbor. You might also get a visit from the police. In fact, this is what happened to Steve von Foerster, former head of vehicle engineering at Ford. This experience gave him the idea for the 2018 Mustang’s Quiet Exhaust Mode.
Known as “Good Neighbor Mode,” this feature is available on the 2018 Mustang GT. It allows drivers to decide when they want to hear the roar of the engine and even lets them schedule quiet times, which is an industry first.

“Active valve performance exhaust gives Mustang owners the best of both worlds–that classic Mustang sound, and the ability to not wake up your neighbors when you leave the house early in the morning or arrive home late at night,” said Matt Flis, Ford exhaust development engineer.
Now, the only thing left to do is to figure out how to get your neighbor to stop cutting their grass at 7am on a Saturday.
The restyled and updated 2018 Ford Mustang will be coming to Hometown Motors later this year. Come see it for yourself when it arrives.
