Winter isn’t just hard on people—it’s hard on cars, too. The cold weather can be rough on the mechanical parts, while the salt can take a toll on the paint. At Hometown Motors, we find that the beginning of spring is the perfect time to give our cars a little extra love and care to wash away the remains of winter. Here are three things you can do to get your car ready for spring.
Check Your Fluids and Your Tires
If you live anywhere with heavier precipitation, there’s no doubt you used a lot of windshield wiper fluid over the winter. This is one of several fluids you should check going into spring, as well as your brake fluid and your oil levels. It’s a good idea to get an oil change at the beginning of spring and have your mechanic check these for you. This is also the perfect opportunity to have your tires rotated and check to see that they’re at the right pressure and ready to go.
Use the Power Wash
If any salty grime builds up on your car, it can ruin your vehicle’s paint job. Be sure to get rid of any salt buildup by giving your car a thorough rinse with a power wash or your own garden hose. Get the underbody as well by using a jack to raise your car up for better reach.
Get New Wiper Blades
April showers won’t stand a chance as long as you replace your wiper blades each spring. Not only will this leave your windshield looking neat and streak-free, it will also increase visibility for safer driving, which is the most important thing of all.
