Summer is ending and with it comes the end of farmer’s market season. But, for those who go for every last drop, fear not. The Weiser Farmer’s Market has a few more Thursdays left, running from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Train Depot through the month of September.
Enjoy live music as you shop for local produce. If you feel like you’ve run out of creative ideas for your fruits and veggies, there are plenty of great ways to make the most of your early fall produce from the Weiser Farmer’s Market. Stock up on apples for apple pie, apple butter or apple cider. Turn the last of the season’s zucchini into loaves of zucchini bread. You can even freeze a loaf or two to enjoy later!
Peaches typically stay available through the fall. Can them or turn them into jam. Grill them and serve them with a dollop of mascarpone cheese and a dash of cinnamon for a fancy autumn dessert. Sautee them with pork chops or chicken. Toss them with kale for a sweet superfruit salad.
Enjoy browsing the produce at the last few nights of the Weiser Farmer’s Market. Stop and chat with the vendors, who are sure to have some creative ideas for cooking with their produce. And while you’re there, don’t forget to sign up to with the weekly raffle!
